Ottawa Pledges $200M to Purchase US Weapons to Send to Ukraine

Canada’s Defence Minister David McGuinty announced that the country will purchase $200 million worth of military equipment from the United States to send to Ukraine. The equipment will be acquired through NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), in coordination with other NATO allies. Launched in August, PURL aims to support Ukraine’s military needs amid its conflict with Russia. Since February 2022, Canada has contributed approximately $892 million to PURL, $6.5 billion in overall military aid, and nearly $22 billion in total funding to Ukraine.
